Patrick H. Norton
Patrick H. Norton established this scholarship as a tribute to his wife of 57 years, LaVerne B. Norton, and the value she placed on higher education. Mrs. Norton made education a priority for her children, two of whom graduated magna cum laude.
“LaVerne and I have enjoyed a fulfilling and rewarding life in Monroe County,” said Mr. Norton. “This is a wonderful way to make a contribution to Monroe, to leave a legacy for LaVerne in support of higher education, and to honor her permanently as part of this community.
“It is my hope this scholarship will give an opportunity to those like LaVerne who did not have the opportunity to attend college, particularly because of financial constraints,” Mr. Norton added.
The Nortons moved to Monroe in 1982 when Mr. Norton became a director of La-Z-Boy Inc. and later the company’s Chairman of the Board.
