Mr. Herb Smith

The husband and daughters of Joanne D. Smith have established the Joanne D. Smith Endowed Memorial Scholarship at Monroe County Community College. Mrs. Smith was a full-time homemaker. She was a church pianist for more than 20 years and a youth group leader for more than 10 years.

Mrs. Smith also played the accordion. Music was her passion and it played a large role in her life. She felt that music improves people’s dispositions and reduces tension. She also believed that people need to have the correct training and education to succeed. The scholarship was established to give back to the community with something she loved. Her family believes she would be proud to help others pursue a music degree. In 2014, Mr. Smith added eligibility to second year nursing students.
