Monroe County Community Credit Union (MCCCU) Board of Directors

Monroe County Community Credit Union Board of Directors established the Michael E. Newman Memorial Scholarship in 2017. Mike began his career in the financial industry as a “Courier” at MCCCU in 1983, prior to that he worked for First National/Security Bank and worked his way up to President/CEO. Learning did not come easy to Mike in high school, so when he went back to school as a working adult and accomplished his Bachelor’s of Science in Finance from Kennedy-Western University, he was very proud of himself. Newman also is a graduate of the University Of Wisconsin Graduate School Of Business in conjunction with the Credit Union National Association. Mike’s career goal was to become President/CEO. He knew that in order to achieve that goal, he would need to continue his education. He understood the value of education and always encouraged his employees to continue to take every opportunity to learn. He told the staff at MCCCU that they should “work today for the job you want tomorrow”.

Over his career, Mike was very active in the Monroe Community and in supporting local institutions. He was Chairman of the Board-Downriver Chapter of Credit Unions, Former Chairman of the Board-Chamber of Commerce of Monroe, instrumental in the United Way Regional Alignment for Monroe and Lenawee County, Michigan Credit Union League State Federal Issues Committee Member, Member of Exchange Club of Monroe, Member of ProMedica of Monroe Philanthropy Committee, Vice Chairman-Michigan Credit Union League Governmental and Political Affairs Committee and Vice President-Community Foundation of Monroe. Mike always took every opportunity to learn new things and continue to better himself. He would be honored to know that through this scholarship he will be assisting someone else in their educational advancements and ultimately one day achieving their career goals.

Mike was married for 38 years to his wife Debbie Newman. They have a son Chad (Amy) Newman, daughter Jennifer (Carson) Poupard and two grandchildren Brooks & Briggs Poupard.
